Dorota Sobieska Stage Director

Dorota Sobieska is a stage director based in Cleveland, Ohio. Having directed 50 opera titles, she offers incredibly broad experience to opera theaters throughout the world.

She staged shows ranging from chamber to large scale. For instance, she stage-directed the most recent production of The Cleveland Opera — "The Haunted Manor" (Straszny dwór) by Stanisław Moniuszko in June 2018 at The Ohio Theatre, PlayhouseSquare — a production that engaged 100 artists on stage and in the pit, including the Cleveland Ballet and Piast Artistic Dance Company.

Her work has been brought to life in a variety of venues, from non-standard spaces (such as museums, churches, libraries, community halls) to standard stages, such as The Ohio Theatre at PlayhouseSqaure, Westlake Performing Arts Center, or Bohemian National Hall.

Dorota Sobieska has been the executive artistic director of the Cleveland Opera for 23 seasons, a company that she co-founded in 1995 as Opera Circle. She holds the degree of the Doctor of Philosophy with a comparative dissertation on poetry, music and the philosophy of art.
